Problem solving involves assisting children in learning how to find answers to problems that they encounter in their daily lives (MacNaughton & Williams, 2009). It is the basics for children to discover and learn about the world around them.

Teacher Jacqueline provides the opportunity and time for children to problem solve. Children were able to try out they ideas to see if it works. Trial and error is an important process of learning to solve problems (MacNaughton & Williams, 2009).
Teacher Jacqueline is an attentive listener, paying attention to children responses and encouraging them to try out their ideas. These are positive reinforcers for children as they problem solve. Helping children to ‘learn to listen’, perspective take, recognise problems and look for other solutions is the key to facilitating a problem-solving climate (MacNaughton & Williams, 2009).

Open-ended materials such as playdough and strings are also provided by Teacher Jacqueline for children to explore. According to MacNaughton & Williams (2009), it creates endless possiblities for children to problem solve.

As the K2s are transiting to their next phase of life soon, it is important that they are well equipped with problem-solving skills. MacNaughton & Williams (2009) stated that problem-solving have been proven to help children develop initiative, creativity, resilience, responsibility and leadership skills. Therefore, in LilChamps House we believe in using problem-solving technique to help children in their learning as it is relevant to our teaching and learning goals.
