A Holistic, Integrated Curriculum

Reggio-Emilia inspired – hundred languages and environment as third teacher
At LilChamps House, children are perceived as curious and active individuals with hundred languages. We strongly believe in providing an environment which can encourage children to create and construct their own learning, allowing the environment to be their third and natural teacher (Klein, 2008).
We aspire to build and create a space that balances opportunities, aesthetics and functionality, where we choose our learning materials with consideration of safety, textures, colour, design, and objectives of exploration as well. Our learning spaces are arranged and set up to inspire collaboration and flexibility, encouraging individual, small and large group activities.
We also wish to emulate a warm, welcoming and pleasant atmosphere in our learning space, where we provide the use of mirrors, lights and shadow play where possible. Learning corners are constantly revised to provide our children with deeper exploration on different topics that can spark children’s interests. Having engaged with such intentional and purposeful materials, children’s learning experiences will be more authentic.
Project Approach-based inspired - Termly Projects
At LilChamps House, we also adopt the Project approach-based to learning, where children are encouraged to voice their questions, thoughts and opinions. This integrated approach involve pre-selecting themes, where a central question will be developed to act as a provocation for a collection of spontaneous activities and experiences.
This approach allows our teachers to incorporate several different subject components (language and literacy, numeracy, motor skills, science, music and movement, social and emotional development) into one activity, where children will be developed more holistically. Although teachers plan these projects with experiences and outcomes in mind, these projects will be responsive, flexible and open-minded, where it will flow with children’s ideas as well.
Through this approach, children’s learning, experience, thinking and learning will be visible to inculcate a culture of reflective and constructive learners (Helm & Katz, 2017).

Integration with the Arts

LilChamps House's curriculum is also created with strong emphasis on the arts, involving the integration of Dance, Music, Art and Speech and Drama. Through arts, children can have an alternative view of the world, through dialogue, reflection, metaphor and imagination. With diverse exposure and creative engagement, we aim to nurture children’s interests in arts and encourage them to express themselves with ease and confidence through arts.
